Pressure Ulcer Treatments
Pressure injuries are what was once known as bed sores. These types of wounds are caused when there is too much pressure to a certain body part, often being the heels and buttocks. These patients can spend long periods of time sitting in a wheelchair or lying in bed. These wounds can also be caused by a medical device or by slipping down and scootching up in bed. The only way these wounds will heal is to relieve all pressure. Certain mattresses and cushions can help with this. But ultimately, the patient must take an active role in healing. If not, these wounds are not likely to heal. In which case, thegoals of care would likely transition from healing to wound management.
